Abstract:
This report contains information about my internship training that was carried out at IBO mixed farm, located in Rwanyamahembe sub county, Kashari County, Mbarara district. From 28th February to 29th April 2022.
The major objective of the industrial training was to equip students with more practical skills and knowledge about the management of different agricultural enterprises.
It was also aimed at providing exposure to various activities carried out at farm level in the agricultural production chain.
During my industrial training, I managed to do the following practices in crop, animal husbandry and entrepreneurial skills at IBO mixed farm.
In animal husbandry I did the following activities; milking, spraying of animals against external parasites, animal treatment, blood sample collection, deworming In goats, record keeping, pasture establishment and management, management of already established pasture, cow signal readings, castration of animals, dehorning of calves, diary management practices, poultry production, pig production and management, hay making, bee keeping, bio gas production, extension work about pasture establishment among others.
Under crop husbandry we did the following; banana growing and management, coffee growing and management, soil sampling, banana macro propagation, plant disease diagnosis, mineral deficiency in plants, non- chemical treatment of plant health problem, citrus growing and management, banana enterprise mix, soil and water conservation, chemical handling.
Entrepreneurial skills include; business model canvass, financial management, job ethics, records management, marketing of products.
However, during different activities various challenges were experienced; i.e. heavy rains, limited farm labourers, limited learning materials among others conclusions were made the entire Industrial training offered additional benefits beyond class knowledge and a great exposure to the field of implementation.
