dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract Busitema university Arapai Campus farm is a government farm with many crop d animal enterprises i.e.; orchard, green house, mushroom, cattle, small ruminants, dairy piggery. This farm is aimed at producing high quality and quantity products like milk, beef, pork, crop produce for the community and study purpose to the students. The internship at Busitema university Arapai Campus farm attempted to provide practical skills, field practice and experience to enhance the theoretical knowledge that is learn class. The following were my objectives; To acquaint myself with the various crop agronomic and animal husbandry practices, to know more about the varieties of various crops, kinds of environments they grow best, how to improve on crops, get experience on animal welfare skills, learn the various breeds of pigs, cattle, dairy and small ruminants at BUAC, animal diseases, their signs, symptoms, and treatment, pest control methods used by farmers in the above enterprises among others. Industrial training revealed that some of the theory taught in class slightly differs from what is practically done in the field, for example; very few agronomic and welfare practices are applied in the field. And some of include, using the correct spacing when planting crops by use of tape measures, sisal strings and others, timely planting and weeding, provision of water to animals in time, providing shelter, food, treating animals, and allowing animals to rest, proper restraint of animals during milking among others. Through industrial training, there was also a reveal that production and management in any of the above enterprise are two different broad activities which must move together in order to get the expected profits at the farm. Production and management require much of seriousness, hard work, sacrifice and above all determination in order to be successful and profitable. Therefore, it is recommended that more agricultural and animal husbandry officers should be trained to guide and advise farmers who are facing hardships in production and management in the enterprises. en_US
