Abstract:
The IT was carried out at Bulamagi Sub county in Iganga District Local Government between May-August 2016 It was a field based practical training experience to prepare trainees for the tasks they are expected to perform on completion of their training. The main objective of this LT was to enrich students with knowledge and skills in the field of farmers' sensitization, plant disease diagnosis, plant census/counting, Research and monitoring. While in the field, I carried out the following activities: pest and disease identification, advising farmers on agronomic practices like mulching, weeding etc. pruning of the plant, pest-control through spraying and physical killing pests, community conservation education and weed control like the striga weed (push and pull technology)Through those activities I also gained new skills and qualifications like the communication skills especially during sensitization, new skills in research and surveying, Skills on how to control different kinds of pests in different crops, Disease diagnostic skills and weed control techniques especially the notorious weeds. During I.T, I also encountered some problems like inadequate funds which made transportation to the field difficult, Environmental conditions where it was extremely hot thus affecting my healthy status, poor transport facilities, poor co-ordination with the farmers which made my work difficult and many others.
