Abstract:
This report is a combination of activities carried out during the 10 weeks' internship attachment at Godson Export Commodity Limited Company; a trading company that deal in crops like chia, soy bean, sesame, flax among others, located in Palaro Sub-County, which is North west. of Gulu district. The training was done to enrich students with Extension experiences, exploring careers and gain occupational competencies useful in the fields of agriculture, was started to increase output and profitability of agriculture while increasing food security, equality and natural resources sustainability and with a vision of being the champion of agro-based, socioeconomic prosperity of the people of Africa-Turning Uganda. Organic!! As regards to the training, farmers were divided into groups in their parishes under: the leadership of the lead farmers who registered farmers during the time for buying seeds from the company. Field officers were rotated among the groups using the rotation plan developed to encompass the programs of chia agronomy; organic requirements for chia production, and chia storage and processing. The activities carried at the organization include: orientation on different topics to be covered at Godson Export Commodity Limited Company, training registered fanners of the company how to make compost manure making of the organic pesticides like chili solutions neem solution, garlic solution, and onion solution which. fight against different pests of chia. Other activities include training farmers all the agronomy of chia crop from planting to harvesting with the organic requirements associated with the crop production. Furthermore, a demonstration was carried out to show farmers how to plant chia in row with the requited chia and sand mixture to facilitate easy planting. We also visited farmers' fields during the internal organic inspection to advice farmers on different issues concerning chia and finally we trained farmers how to save the money got from chia in patternership with Stanbic bank. During the training, I gained practical skills and knowledge on the relative activities mentioned above as well as good interpersonal skills of mobilization, presentations and leadership at the organization. I know that the details I learnt through my experiences in Godson Export Commodity Limited Company will be very valuable in my immediate future when choosing a career path. However, few challenges were faced like; long distant trek, unfavorable weather conditions among others. All in all, it was a wonderful. experience where I got the insight and motivation to pursue a career in agriculture related disciplines, with the help of scientists and support staff. I believe that the internship was a success and I strongly recommend this great institution for internship.
