The objective of this industrial training is to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the field, apply classroom knowledge in the field and build Confidence in the students,
During the internship, I was attached to the Agriculture department. This was followed by orientation where. was introduced to all the staffs of AFSRT and small farms that belongs to the organization and later carried out activities: such as Filing the report on climate smart agriculture funded by GIZ through AFSRT in four districts in Lango sub-region, Spraying of citrus plants against citrus leaf miner and fruit flies,
Mulching tomatoes garden, Grafting mango seedlings, Pruning banana plantation, Weeding of fish pond, Transplanting of jack fruit seedlings, preparing the nursery potting for agro-forestry trees i.e. mahogany and eucalyptus, visiting of farmers’ field in different districts and sub counties, Delivering of seeds for the farmers in the four operational districts, carrying out demonstration in the demonstration gardens for the farmers’ groups, Office and paper work, Communication skills and confidence of interacting and teaching of the farmers.
During the internship, I also faced some challenges like travelling long distances to meet the fanners, inadequate rainfall distribution which affected the timely planting of the delivered seeds, Delay for my allocation on the activities that needs to be done. In conclusion, all the activities I was assigned to be successfully done and the industrial training was as well successful and was able to gain a lot from it. I was in position of getting practical skills, office skills and knowledge in line with my career.
I was able to interact with the farmers during field visits, seed delivery, and demonstration and during the carrying out of activities in their respective farms though we faced some challenges from the farmers like not following the time scheduled, negative attitudes of the farmers, and gender imbalances during the meetings and activities.
The Organization should aim higher in order to attract many funders that will help to improve on the livelihood of the farmers in the region. |
