Abstract:
This Internship Report shows the work performed for a period of 10 weeks and it eventually summarizes the skills, experiences, problems and solutions at UWEPO LIMITED for the purposes of evaluating the entire industrial training program by the Department of Agribusiness and Extension.
Industrial training is a course module that is conducted from either within or outside the University with the intention of imparting practical knowledge and skills to the students. I conducted my Industrial training from Uwepo farm limited located on plot 3 in Buikwe district for the period of 10 weeks starting from 28th Feb to 6th may 2022. The key objective of this training is to enable students to apply the theoretical classroom knowledge learnt at the university and put into practice and also equipping students with more knowledge in the field so as to be ready to face the world of tomorrow in the job market and enabling students to be able to be job creators rather than being job seekers. I carried out several activities specifically on tree and plant nursery and they were nursery bed preparation, nursery management practices such as screening soil, soil sterilization, potting, weeding, watering making holes, and planting, mulching and feeding animals, breadfruit production fish farming, bamboo growing, farming Gods way, making contours to control soil erosion etc. During my Internship period, I gained and I learned a lot of new knowledge, skills and ethics such as being hardworking, working in teams, time management, self-confidence especially during presentations, proposal writing skills, communication skills and having a mind-set of being a job creator than being a job seeker in today's world. Generally, internship has equipped me with more knowledge and skills which I can use since am being exposed to some of extension service delivery skills.
As a trainee at UWEPO farm I experienced some challenges which includes; lack of enough farm tools for example pruning knives, wheelbarrows, bad weather conditions such as too much sunshine, limited money for acquiring personal needs, sickness like malaria which weakened my output, unreliable source of electricity to support gadgets since the farm relies on solar energy which is sometimes affected by changes in weather like too much rainfall
Therefore, I recommend UWEPO farm to improvise more solar batteries or install electricity to improve the reliability of their power for both the trainees and farm workers. They should also purchase more farm tools which will cover insufficient tools problems.
In Conclusion my internship at UWEPO farm was successful having achieved my intended objectives, gained new skills and knowledge.
