Abstract:
This report contains information collected at OCGCUL which is owned by the coffee farmers who are organized in primary societies, each primary society keeps a register of its fully paid-up members who elect a committee which manage the society's affair. OCGCUL is situated on plot 34 Paidha Arua Road in Paidha town in Zombo District in West Nile region of Uganda, East Africa. It is located 440k (273 miles) from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. It is bordering Congo in the North Western part of Uganda.
The chief crop produce in OCGCUL is Arabica coffee that grows on highlands bordering Congo in the Northern part of Uganda at an attitude of between 4500ft to 5200ft above the sea level. The roasted Arabica coffee beans have mild sweet aroma and good taste. Arabica coffee is grown on small gardens owned by individual farmers. The coffee is mostly organically grown.
The organization operates in Four (4) Districts of West Nile of Arua, Nebbi, Zombo and Pakwach. The aim of IT was to gain skills and experience in farm and community exposure in various farm practices and cultural beliefs, behaviors, values and norms. The IT was for a period of Ten weeks (10). It begun on 28th March 2022 to 6th May 2022. A lot of activities were carried out during the entire IT like; potting, weeding, watering, shade construction, setting up cage, compost making, contour bund construction to mention but a few both in the field and within organization.
Although a lot of achievements were made, there were still some challenges faced and recommendations were made to address some of the challenges. Generally, entire process of the IT was successfully done and a lot of practical skills were gained more so in coffee nursery production and I was able to correlate classroom knowledge to practical work.
