Abstract:
This industrial training report was carried out at Katine joint farmers' cooperative society limited, Katine sub county, Dakabeta county Soroti district.in the academic year 2020/2021 starting from 28th/02/20226th/04/2022 with the objectives of exposing students to the field work activities helping farmers to learn scientific/modern agriculture and to disseminate the new innovation in agriculture through extension services and field visits to improve farmers’ standards of living.
Katine joint farmers' cooperative society limited is private organization owned by community farmers of Katine and supported by AMREF, USADAF and UDET. The cooperatives have a supreme body called AGM followed by the BOD and finally the SUPCO while are capable of managing, supervising and implementing day to day activities. The cooperative has three enterprises while include, production and marketing enterprise while deal with produce purchase, bulking, value addition and marketing another one is the input enterprise which involves all farm inputs that farmer require to produce high quality produce and finally the Sacco enterprise which deals with farmers’ savings and different loan products The cooperative runs majorly crop production and the activities carried out during the training includes; field visit to the TOTS, pilot farmers and irrigation site, sitting, preparation and management of nursery bed, storage and store management, store records, attending to the farmers to agro inputs, planting tree seedling at the cooperative, on animal section the following was done; meat inspection, disease diagnosis and animal treatment, surgery in cow we the difficulty in delivery, dog vaccination against anti-rabies.
Various skills and qualifications were obtained which majorly included; pest identification and management, meat inspection riding the motor cycle
I was also responsible in the raising of the nursery bed and their shade, cleaning the maize grinding mill store, attending to the farmers at the agro input and in the store, field visit to the TOTs
Amidst all the challenges I was able to obtain various skills and knowledge that will influence my future plans what I experienced out there in the field was closely related to the lecture room knowledge I had at the university
As I conclude Katine joint farmers' cooperative is successfully progressing basing on its mission, vision and the objectives. I therefore request the university administration to supervise its students in time avoid inconveniences like reporting to school and gather their resources they need at school. Thank you
