Abstract:
This report is for industrial training that I carried out in Kakira sugar Limited which is located in Jinja district 16km from Jinja town along Iganga-Malaba high way in Eastern Uganda. The objective of this training is to expose students to the practice in the field and in the aspect of crop production and disease management. During my attachment in the factory, I was placed in the Agriculture department which had four sections i.e. Nucleus estate, Agronomy, horticulture and dairy which exposed me to the following activities; land preparation, sugar cane planting, fertilizer application, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, sugar cane transportation, sugar cane weighment, juice analysis, sugar cane maturity survey, tiller counting, growing of vegetables, nursery preparation, compost making, spraying, pest and disease identification, lawn management, identification of tools, identification of chemicals, milking, ration mixing of seeds, bucket feeding, drainage maintenance and general cleanliness. With this training I faced various challenges while in the field which included the following; it was tiresome for me to count the internodes of sugar cane during cane weighment, it was hard for me to count the shoots of sugar cane during tiller counting, I faced a challenge of too much sunshine in the field when counting sugar cane, it was also tiresome for me to make a nursery bed and compost manure. However, with the above challenges I managed to complete my industrial training successfully and it was good.
