dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract The industrial training report was carried out at National Semi-Arid Resources Research Institute (NaSARRI), Serere located 21km south west of Soroti from 28th February to 22nd April 2022. In this training, I was attached to five different programs which included dry land cereals, and legumes, oil crops, and cotton and farm management. The main objective of the training was to equip students with basic practical skills while relating to the theoretical knowledge learnt in class into practical. The source of information was obtained from field technicians while in the field and through reading text books containing relevant information, visual observations in the field and interactions with other internees. This report comprises of four chapters which include; chapter one containing the background, location and objectives. Chapter two contains activities that carried out in various sections. Chapter three has the skills, responsibilities, challenges faced, the influence on my future career and the correlation of the attachment with classroom knowledge. Chapter four contains the conclusions and recommendations. The following skills were gained during my IT, hybridization/emasculation, field marking and use of digital weighing scales (precision weighing scales). However, some challenges were met such as long distances, shortage of clean water and the dry season whereby only few experimental plants were present which made pests and disease identification very difficult. In conclusion, the industrial training was very successful and educative as it equipped me with practical skills and knowledge which further made it more efficient. To counter the above challenges, the administration of NaSARRI should provide clean water to the internees, provide accommodation and the university administration should arrange for students IT during the wet season where there are many field activities to make pest and disease identification easy. en_US
