Abstract:
The field attachment was carried out at Gulu District Association (GDFA) which is a member based organization that was formed in 1992 with the objective of mobilizing the farmer community to have one voice under one independent umbrella organization. Gulu DFA is also registered member of the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UN the umbrella body for all Farmers organization in Uganda. Gulu DFA is located in Northern Parts of Uganda and currently have registered membership of 25000 farmers and 834 Registered Farmer groups in the whole of Gulu and Omoto district respectively.
Guru District Farmers’ Association (GDFA) is dedicated to eradicating poverty in the smallholder’s farmers’ households where the majority of the regions poorest, laborers, herders, fishers and small-scale entrepreneurs depend on agriculture and related activities to survive. We give special attention to gender differences and to empower women, who account for a disproportionate numb.
Internship training is one of the practical requirements with the aim of equipping students with practical skills and getting exposed to the work environments carried out for a period of ten weeks from 20.05.201.9 to 26.07.2019 on a theory ground like farmers training and practical like demo site setting at Gulu DFA located at Lalogi sub-county in Omoro district. During the attachment period, several activities were conducted e.g.: farmers training on GAP for soybean rice, setting demo sites for the different crops, data collections for agro input dealers and produce dealers, monitoring of planting activities, follow up on land preparation, weeding which all aimed at equipping the students, with skills on site selection planting, data and analysis among others. While conducting the field activities few interventions like achievement of successful setting of demo site, GAP training on different enterprises data collections etc. Within the engagement period. Even though during the periods of attachment few challenges like weather effects, communication gaps with the farmers, but all in all the industrial training was successfully done and its main aim of equipping students with practical skills was achieved following the different innovations made in order to perform the planned activities.
