Abstract:
This report contains and explains the background information of Kasolwe stock farm the different sections and the activities performed in each section, skills acquired during the course of industrial training, the conclusions, challenges and the recommendations to the challenges faced during my IT from the 28th/02/2022 to 6th/05/2022.
Kasolwe stock farm is a government farm managed by NAGRC &DB under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries. Its main objective is to serve as a center of excellence for animal resources business incubation, breeding and invention.
The industrial training at KSF was to provide me with skills and practical knowledge about animal production and management to enhance the theoretical knowledge that is learnt from class.
The farm deals mainly in livestock divided into sections including the poultry section, goat section, piggery, aquaculture, cattle and the feed mill where animal feeds are processed. The activities performed during the course of my IT include;
Inspection, feeding, cleaning, turning litter and post-mortem in the poultry section. Identification, ear tagging, spraying, census, post-mortem, castration and treatment in goats. Disinfecting, cleaning and deworming in the piggery section. Fish sampling, pond construction, feeding and sexing of fish in aquaculture. Inspection, verification, castration, PD in the cattle section. Feed formulation, feed mixing and packaging in the feed mill section.
I acquired skills, undertook responsibilities and the IT added a lot to my future career, revealing that the knowledge attained in class is applicable in the practical farm work.
In conclusion, the IT was done successfully though there were some challenges I encountered for example moving long distances to the farm, I therefore recommend that the farm should have residential halls to accommodate internship students.
