dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract The objective of this industrial training is to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field and build confidence in the students. I held my internship at Kasolwe Stock Farm from the 28th of February 2022 to 6th May 2022. KSF is a government farm, it comprises of six main enterprises i.e. cattle, small ruminants, piggery, poultry, aquaculture, and a feed processing plant. It's aimed at increasing production and productivity of small holder farmers in the greater Busoga region. The internship at KSF provided practical skills, field practice and experience to enhance the theoretical knowledge that is learnt from class. My objectives were to acquire knowledge and skills about the following; • Animal diseases, signs and symptoms • Feed processing and packaging • Black soldier fly larvae production • Pasture establishment and management • Animal husbandry practices and get hands on experience e.g. castration, identification, dipping and pregnancy diagnosis. Routine management practices included census, inspection, verification, dipping, treatment, cleaning and feeding of livestock. The training revealed that the theory taught in class is similar to what is practically done in the field for example the drugs, route of administration, dosage and importance are the same as in class since the results are shown practically. It also revealed that for any enterprise to succeed, production and management should move hand in hand A lot of hard work, sacrifice, dedication and information are paramount therefore more animal scientists should be trained to advice and guide farmers on animal production and management. en_US
