dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract This report contains the introduction of the industrial training carried out at kitawoi sub county in kween district local government under the department of agriculture and production office. Kitawoi sub-county is located in kween district to the south of the district which enters to the mt. Elgon national park, it has a total population of 8,800 people as in 2022 data survey covering an area of 38.22 km2 constituting 29 villages and 6 parishes, it borders sub-county to the east, Benet sub county to the west, the national park in the south and Binyay town council to the north. The sub county is made up of three escarpments namely the lower, middle and upper making a sub county hard to reach area with a hilly terrain and poor road network hence making transport very difficult for produce to markets and movements daring raining season. There is a variety of main commercial cash crops grown in this area which include cabbage, Irish potatoes, barley, maize, onions, wheat, cowpeas, beans, coffee and little bananas. Activities and services offered are provision of extension advisory services like AI, enterprise selection, training on land preparation such as conservation tillage, zero tillage conventional tillage among others, farm management practices and agronomic practices include weed control. insect pest and disease management using agro chemicals such as fungicides, herbicides, pesticides, nematicides among others. Training on the importance of timely planting and using artificial fertilizers at recommended amount and spacing, classification, identification and proper handling of agro-chemicals With the skills attained during the industrial training am able set up a personal project without any default to support my future career plans because I acquired good knowledge on enterprise selection, responsibilities with farmers, confidence in communication and practical work skills. Despite of the challenges encountered of bad weather, poor road network, absence of farmers to the trainings points which therefore needs more sensitization of the agriculture advisory services in order to change the mind-set, believes, norms and beliefs of different communities. en_US
