Abstract:
It was in the grace period of May up to august that I happened to carry out my industrial training at BugiZARDI which is located in Masiira sub-county in Bulambuli District in Eastern Uganda. The Institute is composed of Buginyanya as the main station, Bolegeni and Ikulwe as satellite station and the organization is under the ownership of NARO. It basically deals in the enterprises of bananas, apples coffee, seed potatoes, wheat and maize, ground nuts, Robusta coffee both in high attitude, mid altitude and lower altitude. The Institute was established in 1969 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperatives and marketing as a Coffee Research Station known as Buginyanya Coffee Research Station (BCRS) with the objectives of addressing the problems related to Arabica coffee production by farmers such as disease, insect pests and agronomic problems and mission of developing and promoting appropriate Agricultural technologies and knowledge. During my I.T I carried out the following activities, agronomic practices, training and grafting apples, pricking coffee, potting coffee field marking, spraying coffee and data collection amidst challenges of unfavorable climate, theft, overtime work etc. I managed to gain skills like Preparing sand bed for raising coffee seeds and pricking, Formulation of different proportion of soils for potting
Conclusively the internship was a great achievement to me as I achieved my objectives and expectations and finally I do recommend that the institute to purchase more equipment, and Also I recommend the institute to put up some affordable rooms which can be used by the students during their research.
