Abstract:
Industrial training is one of the syllabus in the curriculum of Busitema university Arapai campus (BUAC) under faculty of agriculture and animal sciences (FAAS) in Soroti district one of the eastern mother districts of Uganda that has added core values to the certificate, diploma and degree program by enhancing opportunistic skills of graduates. This report assesses the impact of training in skills and knowledge by under taking training in crop and livestock enterprises such as poultry management, cattle management, goat management, crop management and other correlating activities within JAVIK schedule in particular. Not only the training enhances effective and successful improvement of skills, knowledge and experience of student but however, it creates chances of employment opportunity after graduation hence providing reliable source of highly skilled, literate social workers a qualification figure of employees. The information of activities was collected through non-structural interviews, direct observations, recorded literatures, questioning and practical demonstration and various activities gathered in the training is presented by tabular and content form
The practice exposed the student to real work experience, environment and promoted the application of theory into practice through under taking activities like deworming in livestock, control of parasites, animal health management practices, feed formulation in poultry production, other livestock management practices e.g. hygiene and sanitation ,grafting of mango seedlings likewise pruning of citrus, weeding as management field practices, preparation of plant tea manure, site selection, nursery bed preparation and fertilization, planting of various crops with farmers in JAVIK at recommended spacing as well as office management skills and record keeping were under taken.
The training is the only opportunity for a student to engulf hand on job experiences, skills and knowledge by applying theoretical concepts and developing work attitude in their future career, understanding the bottlenecks of working life and hence correlating it with field execution and the classroom knowledge as core courses are concerned.
The areas of concern are student supervisor coordination, facilitation of students during the course of the training for both the private and government students in a way of appreciating them to secure future career Job plans both by NGOs and government.
