Abstract:
I carried out my industrial training in SCOUL Lugalambo section located along Kampala-Jinja highway in Lugazi Municipality, mabira region in Buikwe District.
The mission of this training was to transform the theories done in class to practical activities and gaining of confidence in the field skills performed
During my industrial training in SCOUL I carried out various management practices in sugarcane cultivation from trash cleaning, 1st and 2odploughing, using a disc plough, harrowing with a disc harrow, ridging with a ridger, planting sugarcane on slope land, upland and lowlands, weed management practices like chemica1 control, manual and mechanical weed control, intercultivation, with deep tyne and chisel plough in Raton crops, 2 and 4 gang disc bending, nutrient management in sugarcane using organic fertilizers, urea, MoP, lime, potassium and phosphorous fertilizers, green manuring with sun hemp and harvesting management practices.
Despite the fact that my internship was successful, there were some challenges and problems like long distances to the field/ work place, bad weather conditions especially rain fall which could beat me in the field and there was no shelter.
In my opinion the company should construct residential areas near the working fields so that workers reach in time at the workplace so as to increase the efficiency of work out put hence increase in production.
