A report on industrial training conducted at Buwunga sub county in Bugiri district

Abstract

Industrial training is one of the modules done at Busitema University Arapai Campus aimed at equipping students with practical skills: and exposing them to working conditions in field of their choice. The University sends its students to agricultural farms, factories like Kakira in Jinja and districts of their own choice where they do IT from. I carried out my IT from Bugiri district, Buwunga sub county from 28th February - 16th April 2022. During my 1T we based on crop production and management with my field supervisor, controlling several crop pests and diseases and advising farmers on how-to prevent some of them. This training had a lot of positive results towards my career plans because of several technical knowledge that I acquired during my stay in the field and these include; collecting soil samples, controlling of fall army worms, control of Banana weevil borers, controlling of weeds in banana plantation. During IT 1 faced several hardships like heavy rains and sun shine, poor methods of farming; hunger, dusty roads, laziness of farmers to carry out the agronomic practices and many, others. These cannot stop me from appreciating the entire IT time frame. This report consists of four chapters. Chapter one describes the location and pack ground of Buwunga sub county in Bugiri district, chapter two describes the activities. that we carried out, chapter three explains the impacts of IT onto my future goals and perceptions and chapter four conclusions and my recommendations. All in all, my IT was a success because of the much technical knowledge that I got. However, there is a lot of disease and pest resistance in Bugiri district, Buwunga sub county as a, result of the farmers mixing pesticides then, selves using un recommended pesticides and instructions for a certain pest. Therefore, I recommend the government of Uganda through crop extension workers, to sensitize farmers to always use skilled labor to spray their crops in order to avoid pest resistance, the government also should deploy more crop officers at sub county levels to attend to all farmers to boost on crop industry in our country as far as crop production is concerned.
