Internship is one of the course modules done at Busitema university as a partial fulfillment for the award of various courses i.e. CGA, DAP, DCP, BAB, APM, and BSA. The objective of industrial training is to build confidence in students, make them experience and apply classroom knowledge in the field. This industrial training was done in a period of 2 and half months. It commenced on 28th of Feb and ended on 6th of May 2022. 0n the 28th of Feb, I reported at Mountain Harvest SMC located in Mbale city on plot 1 Pallisa road. I was taken through orientation where I was introduced to the staff and departments of the company, the background, organization, activities, vision and mission of the company. I was attached to the ware house department where we did activities of weighing coffee, sorting coffee, data entry, milling, hulling, screening and mixing of grades. Other than the warehouse, I also did field activities like training of farmer groups and distribution of inputs, farmer registration and certification. I also carried out cupping, roasting, packaging and grinding in the coffee laboratory. Through this training, I was able to attain skills in building interpersonal relationship with farmers, cupping of' coffee, brewing of coffee, general management of warehouse, communication skills and confidence in training farmers. The training gave me a lot of motivation to continue focusing on my career. However, challenges like poor mobilization of farmers, poor turn up of farmers for the training, being off coffee season and rats in the warehouse, frequent freezing of data entry devices computers affected smooth running activities. In conclusion, the internship was carried out successfully and I was able to gain a lot from it. I recommend the company to put in place a signpost so that it can easily be located by farmer and other persons and update the windows of their computers to the latest version most of them to ease data entry. |
