Abstract:
This report contains the introduction to industrial training, the back ground of the organization, it also describes the activities implemented, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced, conclusion of the report and recommendation from challenges faced during internship. The objectives of industrial training are to make student benefit from skills and knowledge gained from fields, apply knowledge obtained from classroom into the field and build confidence in them. I compiled this report during industrial training that began on Monday 28th/02/2022 and ended on Friday 6th/05/2022 at mountain harvest SMC ltd. This was for ten weeks to act as a partial fulfillment for the award of diploma in crop production and management at BUAC. The purpose of industrial training was to enable me convert my theoretical knowledge into practical which was indeed successful. The company is located in Mbale city along Pallisa road on plot I and has branches in districts of Bududa, bulambuli, Sironko, kapchorwa. My intern period was based in two areas i.e. warehouse and in the field in Bududa district Mabono sub county where I was supervised by Mr. Wasembula Brian. Several activities like raising of coffee seedlings to be supplied to farmers, coffee buying, pulping, washing of coffee, hulling, supplying of inputs to farmers like beans ovacado seedlings etc, data collection, coffee pruning, stumping, teaching farmers coffee agronomy and related intercrops of coffee like beans, maize, bananas, management of diseases and pests like coffee leaf rust, coffee berry borers, coffee wilt disease, banana bacterial wilt, stem borer control and soil conservation measures like soil control, terracing, mulching which enabled me to put theoretical knowledge into practical. However, I faced some challenges faced like failure of farmers to provide all the desired information during data collection as they expected much from the company, despite the challenges I attained knowledge and skills in various areas i.e. coffee processing, hulling, pruning, stumping, general agronomy among others which qualifies me to be a very good extension officer. I therefore recommend the university to provide hard cover logbooks. In summary, the internship has been successfully done
