The industrial training report describes the skills gained and the activities carried out at Busitema University Arapai campus farm situated in Arapai Sub County, Soroti district.
The training commenced on the 28th.02.2022 and ended on the 06th.05.2022 (10 weeks).
Industrial training is one of the practical course module carried out by certificate, diploma and bachelor students at the end of the first year. Its objectives to train and empower students with skills in various sections of animal and crop department and also the industrial training is designed to give students hands on experiences in agricultural production where students acquire skills and knowledge on various agricultural activities by converting theoretical knowledge from class into practical skills. The objective of the industrial training also is to expose students to actual working environment and build confidence in the students.
The training involved visitation of different farm sections under crop and animal departments namely dairy/zero grazing, cattle, small ruminant, piggery, orchard, Greenhouse/screen house from 8:00am-5:00pm and at 6:00pm for the personal attachment at the maize plot. The university farm is organizationally structured up from the Dean of faculty down to the herdsmen/stockmen.
Moreover, here the university farm beneficiaries are the locals of Arapai Sub County & beyond.
The first week task of the training was orientation meeting, grouping of students and personal attachment. During the course of the weeks, activities such as castration of piglets for fattening, daily mgt., feed formulation, field markings, banana plot re-establishment, mango orchard re- establishment all in crop sections etc. These activities have made me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge like; Deworming of goats and cattle, skills in Castration, skills in general management of animals, communication skills and confidence in training beneficiaries on animal and crop management. During the training, I faced some challenges like limited farm resources to use, weather changes, non-cooperative group members etc. In conclusion, all the activities were carried out successful |
