This report contains information that was compiled during the industrial training attachment carried out at Kaliro Sugar and Allied industries from 26th May to 26th July 2019 majorly under one crop which is sugarcane growing.
The major aim of the attachment was to expose students to technical and practical knowledge and skills in correlation to class room work and be able to fit in modern competitive world.
Chapter one elaborates the introductory part of the Kaliro sugar and allied factory including its background, location, mission and objectives of its establishment.
Chapter two contains the description of activities I conducted during my attachment enumerated under sugarcane crop agronomic practices such as, land preparation, planting time, sugarcane spacing, weeding, propping, trash cleaning drainage formation, gap filling, Raton management practices and fertilizer application and recommended varieties of sugarcane planted at SAIL plantations and their supplies [out growers], Crop, pathology including pests and disease description of their control measures, Crop entomology including pest damage and the control measure.
Chapter three indicates the impact of my industrial training, attachment including knowledge and skills attained such as crop improvement under, disease severity scoring, data collection and pest and disease identification basing on their signs and symptoms. Furthermore, it evaluates the responsibilities I undertook during my attachment, influence of the training to my future career, correlation of the attachment with the classroom knowledge and finally the challenges encountered such as inadequate equipment like filter mud applicator for use during emasculation.
Chapter four describes the conclusion and the recommendations based on my suggestion for rectification by both the stuff of Kaliro Sugar and Allied Industries and management of Busitema University Arapai Campus and Kaliro Sugar and Allied industries in order to strengthen the study and research programs. as the market leader in generation and dissemination of appropriate crop technologies for sustainable development for both students and the farmers in Uganda. |
