Abstract:
Industrial training is one of the examined modules conducted in Busitema university Arapai campus and it is aimed at imparting practical skills to students. However, this was conducted from 20th/May/2019 to 26th/July/2019 at BUAC farm and following weekly stipulated activities.
Busitema University is a public university established by statutory instrumental No.22, 2007 enacted by parliament on 10, May, 2007. The university is a multi-campus model with seven campuses namely; Arapai, Busitema, Mbale, Nagongera, Kaliro, Pallisa and Namasagali
However, I conducted my internship at Arapai campus; this campus is located in Soroti district
Arapai Sub County on Moroto road however Buac started as Arapai college in 1956 later was to Busitema university as a faculty of agriculture and animal science this campus offers the following programmes e.g. Degree in APM„ BSA and BAB, diploma in DAP, DCP and CGA
While I was at Busitema university Arapai campus farm, I conducted various activities in different sections e.g. poultry, aquaculture, pasture conservation management, cattle section, orchard section, piggery section, mushroom production and also some trainings like making of organic pesticides and AVIS training
I also faced some challenges like there was a challenge of inadequate tools to use during the time of repairing the cattle kraal e.g. pangas, u-shaped nails e.tc. Lack of some poultry feeds like cotton seed cake which affected feeds formulation and poor sanitation and hygiene in the animal sections: This exposed animals to diseases.
Therefore, the staff of Buac administration should recruit more skilled permanent, equipped and committed technical attendants and field supervisors to successfully take students through the hands on training activities.
Sincerely, the training was being successfully conducted despite the hardships encountered, it has been of great value to my life as far as diploma in crop production and management is concerned.
