dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract This report contains and describes the activities performed, skills obtained and challenges encountered during the industrial training, conclusions and recommendations derived from the challenges encountered during the attachment at St Paul’s College Mixed Farm. The objectives of the IT were to make the students benefit from the practical skills obtained in the field during the attachment, to acquire practical skills in the field so as to boost on their theoretical knowledge obtained from class, to expose students to different organizations and farmers as they are to deal in such organizations and farms, to expose students to the agricultural environment o as to enable them cope up with field conditions while they are still at school. During the eight (8) weeks’ industrial training at SPCMF in Mbale city, the major activities which were carried out included postharvest fencing, handling, banana production and management, coffee production and management, tomato production and management, soil and water conservation, kitchen gardening, cabbage production and management and outreach The IT program was relevant as I was able to put the theoretical knowledge obtained in the classroom in practice. The supervisors were extremely good as they provided us with several skills without any doubt. Though, as any organization had some challenges but we had to move on for the good of our study The major challenges were limited facilities like the tissue cultural unit which hindered us from carrying out tissue cultural practical, limited pruning equipment, unfavorable road network around the farm however the community can join efforts with farm to improve on this challenge Throughout the IT, I learnt several things e.g., cooperation, team work, hard work, trust and finally God fearing as the Lord Almighty is powerful over everything In conclusion, I observed that the institute had less projects, less equipment e.g., Pruning tools, hoes manure collecting and transporting equipment, limited labor in some sections limited postharvest handling structures. I there for recommend the institution to work hand in hand with the community to work on their road network so as to offer their produce to market without difficulties, add on the equipment and projects as all these projects are for the institutions own benefit en_US
