dc.description.abstract |
The industrial training was about practicing and learning new ideas and knowledge from the field of extension and agricultural production. As an intern student I was attach to production department and allocated in four sub counties of Lobalangit, Karenga, Kakwanga and Kapedo town council for practice
Chapter one presents a brief introduction of the district and its small administrative units and the background for the attachment under faculty of agriculture and animal’s sciences with period of 10 weeks’ practice therefore chapter two summaries all the activities done during the practices.
Therefore, the summaries of the activities are as below Seeds viability test of maize and bean was carried and done successfully to know the accurate rate of growths of the seeds. Attending local economic development training to empower participants to effectively utilize the local resources for sustainable development and post vaccination monitoring to assess foot and mouth disease free status in animals was done in the first week. On the second week treatments of swine pneumonia and management practices where done, mobilizing farmer for agricultural climate smart change i.e., Zero tillage farming, home gardening and double dug bed establishment and joint participatory meeting of the NARO team on livestock’s feeds formulation on plants residues Allocation of seeds of maize and beans from the OWC and involvement in partnership meeting for market for youth produces. I also participated in livestock vaccination program, commissioning Agro input implements and disaster risk technical management meetings to reduce on risk and hazard of phenomenon condition Farmer training on orange sweet potatoes and agronomical practices were done to target high yield of the sweet potatoes and disease control measure with pest management practices of the crop where done, vegetables farming of various types were done and given seeds to train model farmer to grow the crops for commercial purpose Cereal farming and production and apiary where the last activities done. Chapter three highlight the keys things enjoyed and problems experience and benefits derived from the field attachment and chapter four conclusion and recommendation. The production department of Karenga district should open land for demo gardens and practices of crops farming and animals’ production and management for learning purpose
Farmer should adopt new farming methods of farming i.e., row planting and minimum cultivation of soil and the university should equips students with field and practical tools. |
