Abstract:
This industrial training was of 8 weeks starting from 22nd.August.2022 and ending on 14th. October.2022. it was carried out on Lusenke stock farm in kayunga district Busaana sub county Lusenke village. The report contains and describes the activities implemented, skills and qualifications gained, challenges faced during the industrial training, Conclusions of the report and recommendations derived from challenges faced at Lusenke farm. The objective of this industrial training is to make students benefit from the skills and knowledge gained from the fields, apply the knowledge they get from the classroom in the field and build confidence in them. There my objectives were among the following: To know the diseases that affect animals, signs and symptoms and their treatment. To know parasite control methods used by cattle, Piggery and poultry farmers, to know the different breeds of cattle, piggery and poultry at Lusenke stock farm.
Lusenke stock farm is a government farm with three main enterprises that is poultry, piggery and cattle section. The activities carried out during internship included; Orientation where I was introduced to different farm enterprises for example cattle section, piggery and poultry and latter
I carried out activities such as: litter turning, ear tagging, spraying using spray race, feeding birds, castration, egg sorting, vaccination of birds, pregnant diagnosis etc. These activities has made me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge like: ear tagging of cattle, skills in pregnant diagnosis skills in general management of animals, communication skills and confidence in training farmers on animal management.
During internship, I also faced some challenges like: moving long distance from the area of residence to the farm which made me to reach past time some days, poor accommodation, conservativeness of some farm workers who were always conservative with the information. In conclusion all activities were implemented and carried out successfully. I was able to gain a lot from it. I was in position of getting practical skills and knowledge in line with my career relating with people in the field. Much as all were successfully don, however there were some challenges which hindered the smooth running of the activities on the farm like not providing lunch to farm workers, lack of a sickbay for offering first aid to farm workers etc.
