dc.description Industrial training report en_US
dc.description.abstract This industrial training report covers the activities that I carried out at LES from 22nd August 2022 to 14th October 2022 where I participated in the different sections i.e. dairy, poultry, and piggery & feed mill where I carried out various activities in them together with my field supervisor Mugeni Isaac, fellow students ISREIL, RONALD, JOSEPH and the different farm workers. NAGRC&DB-LES is currently running on three (3) enterprises/projects i.e. the dairy, poultry and the piggery projects. These are aimed at improving the farmer’s agricultural products i.e. high quality and quantity, milk, beef, pork, eggs and other products that are highly demanded on the global market in order to improve the farmer’s life. During my industrial training at LES, I was provided with practical field skills and experience that correlated with my theoretical knowledge that I was given by my lecturer’s. With the efforts of all, I was able to meet the objectives which included; disease diagnosis of animals, the various animal husbandry practices, feed formulation for the various livestock and poultry, animal health management, birds’ vaccination, pest and disease control. Industrial training is a course module that is conducted from either within or outside the University with the intension of imparting practical knowledge and skills to the students. Generally my industrial training was productive since I was in position to acquire practical skills and helped me to put into practice the theory that I learnt in lectures into practice. I conducted my industrial training from at livestock experimental station and quarantine center-NAGRIC&DB. Livestock experimental station is a government farm with three main enterprises i.e.; Diary, Poultry and piggery. It is aimed at producing high quality and quantity milk, beef, pork, eggs and chicken for the community. These activities have engaged me to gain a lot of skills and knowledge like milking skills, vaccination skills general animal management and gaining confidence in training farmers on animal management practices. During industrial training, I also faced some challenges like moving long distance from my place of residence to the farm, inadequate transport and actually another challenge was I never got enough records. In conclusion industrial training was carried out successfully done and me as a person I benefited a lot from it. I was in position of getting practical skills and knowledge in line with my career and relating with people in the field. Much as all were successfully done, to the little challenges that I faced, I would like to recommend that farm management should at least provide places of residence near the farm to solve problems of poor turn up during farm activities and improvise more information to its workers. en_US
