Abstract:
Busitema University at the end of academic year for continuing students provide the students with the field attachment sessions where they are taught practical skills and exercising what they were taught in class to equip students with field skills and enable them to appreciate the link between the theory learned in class and their respective professional fields. The key objective of this training is to enable the students apply the theory learnt in class and put into practice, get more knowledge in the field so as to work with the community, conserve the environment and to be exposed to challenges and possible solutions. This report contains the background of the farm (MAIKUT) including its location, vision etc. the activities I carried out in the course of the field attachment include, weeding, planting, pruning, transplanting, watering, irrigation management, pest and disease identification and management in different fields of the farm on crops like Onions, Potatoes, Cabbages, Coffee and Maize. I learnt a lot of practical skills in agronomic management of farm crops, and I dearly recommend the University to increase on the duration of the training to be at least ten weeks.
