Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship pricing of wheat and wheat production by small scale farmers in Kween district. The objectives of the study were: to determine the relationship between pricing of wheat and wheat production of small scale farmers to find out the effect of pricing of wheat on the livelihood of farmers who produce wheat on the small scale in Kween district. The study adopted a correlational survey design where both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used. In this study, a total number of 52 respondents in the survey representing a response rate of 100%. The data was collected using questionnaires, and interviews and quantitative analysis was done using SPSS. The results showed that the price of wheat at farm gate was Ugx 1000 per Kilogram (38.5%)indicating a significant positive relationship between pricing and production of wheat. Secondly upon selling wheat, farmers were able to earn between Ugx 50000-100000(19.2%) indicating a significant positive relationship between pricing and revenue generated from wheat. The District Local Government should support wheat small scale wheat farmers and protect them from the middle men who cheat them. There is need to support the extension so that they are able to reach the wheat farmers and train the good agronomic practices and post-harvest handling of wheat. There’s need to provide the wheat farmers with market information so that they can deal directly with the buyers or processors to eliminate middlemen.
