Local community participation on cultural tourism development in Uganda:

Abstract

The study examined the impacts of local community participation on cultural tourism development. The study was guided according to the following objectives to investigate the impact of passive participation on cultural tourism development, to assess the impact of active participation by local community on cultural tourism development, to assess the impact of community involvement on cultural tourism development. The used exploratory research design and qualitative approach, data was collected from a target population of 45 and a sample size of 40. The data were collected with the aid of close-ended questionnaire, statistical packages were employed to analyze data from which frequency tables, descriptive statistics (mean and standard divination), reliability and viability, correlation, and regression results were obtained. The study findings showed that there is a positive significant impact of local community participation on cultural tourism development. The study recommends that the effort to improve on the local community participation on cultural tourism development should be done through allowing the local community members to take part in the decision-making process concerning cultural tourism.
