Abstract:
Over the years, the performance of students in composition writing in English language has not
been good. Thus, students’ proficiency in English goes to a long extent to determine the student
academic achievement in the overall. Student’s failure to understand the composition writing
becomes a challenge in academic achievement. This study will seek to assess the causes of poor
performance in composition writing in English in secondary schools in Kongasis county, Bukwo
district. The study will establish the influence of teacher training on performance of composition
writing in English in secondary schools in Kongasis County. The study will also identify the
influence of teaching and learning materials on performance of composition writing in English
language in Kongasis County. The study will examine the influence of teachers’ and students’
attitude towards composition writing on performance of students in composition writing in
English language. The study will employ a descriptive research design. The study sample will be
from 09 secondary schools. Data collection will be done using a questionnaire structured on a
Likert scale. The collected data will be analyzed in form of descriptive and inferential statistics
with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22
