Abstract:
In this industrialized world, the amount of Construction and Demolition Waste
generated worldwide seems to be huge. Employing these wastes as substitute for
coarse aggregates in concrete is an important consideration both economic and
environmental wise. A study has been made on properties of terracotta aggregate
which is to be used as coarse aggregate. The percentage of terracotta aggregate that
partially replaced coarse aggregate by weight was 0%,10%,20%,30%,40% and 50%.
Concrete cubes were casted and tested in the laboratory. Properties of aggregate and
comparison of terracotta aggregate concrete against coarse aggregate concrete was
performed according to requirements as such for its workability and compressive
strength test. The results show that greater than 30% replacements of coarse aggregate
are not suggested as specific gravity, water absorption and compressive strength are
not fit for desirable concrete properties.
