Abstract:
Construction work in Uganda is a major contributor to workplace injuries and fatalities. Despite
the increasing construction activity in the country, worker safety in the industry remains a
concern due to a lack of information on the use of personal protective equipment (particularly
hardhats) among construction workers. Injuries sustained by individuals not wearing PPE are
often severe and traumatic, with head injuries caused by falls, slips, and falling objects or debris
being the most common. Timely first aid and assistance are often hindered by delays in locating
injured workers. To address these issues, this research aims to develop an IoT-based system to
monitor hardhat use by construction workers and provide real-time reports of head injuries and
the location of injured individuals.
